The willingness to desist or to discontinue eating or drinking or both for a period of time is called fasting. There are several reasons that a person wants to fast depending on his/her personal lifestyle to get benefits from his/her goals, beliefs or even health issues particularly in losing weight.

The type of fasting and the period of time will depend on the person. Though, there are people who are not advised to take fasting as their way of losing weight. Pregnant women, people with wasting diseases or malnutrition, those with a history of cardiac arrhythmias, people with hepatic or renal insufficiency, and anyone who fast for extended periods should do so only under close medical supervision.

If you prefer to fast for weight loss, it’s good thing to know first everything in specially its pros and cons so you will be able to decide wisely if it’s good or bad for you. In the mean time, you should be familiar in types of fasting for weight loss that you may consider before knowing the pros and cons of it.

Fasting for Weight Loss – Its Pros:

The main benefit of fasting is to lose weight quickly.Becoming more organized, more committed in relationships, showing more self confidence and more at peace and lose more weight are some benefits of it. You give relaxation to your digestive sysmtem which is needed by the body. A good side of fasting is to redirect your spiritual time, to have reasonable and balance mind and to be free to toxins. This is a period for your body to clean its internal parts.

Strengthening the immune system and healing illnesses and disorders or a medical practices are the factual good effects of fast. Cleaning the respiratory, circulatory, digestive and urinary systems are its functions and also, wiping out impurities all over the body and removes uric acid deposits. You do not have to cook, shop for food and clean up after eating while and after undergoing fast.Instead, you can use this time to meditate, read and anything else.

The Cons of Fasting for Weight Loss:

There are more bad side of fasting beacuase of physiological changes that tredirects the body. These include headaches, nausea, muscle aches, cardiac problems, and protein malnutrition. Severe attacks of gout or a uric acid kidney stone can be the cause of fasting and some people have felt hormonal changes.

Other than that, having bad breath is one of the worst sides of fasting. It also slows your metabolic rate down; resulting in nutritional deficiencies. The problem is the restraint of calorie, which may cause your basal metabolic rate (BMR) to decrease. In rare cases, extended fasts can direct to disorder of heart rhythm. Weight is not the problem. It is the source or the result of the problem.

Consult your doctor for a better advice so you can live and make new plans for the future. Now you have all the prospects you might experience so take your conclusions and consider thinking it twice.
